The yard is really a magical thing. It is both private and connected to every household. Everything that happens can be seen. It’s not entirely personal, there’s a better way to say that you’re not alone. Sometimes I feel a little lonely sitting in the yard, and the world is quiet, but for a moment, I seem to hear the footsteps of the child next door just coming home from school, and hear the neighbor’s freshly washed vegetables pouring into the pot. The smell of oil smoke, seeing the couple in front of the door arguing with me, the world is so noisy again.
